The Professional UV Headlight Restoration Kit is a complete solution for repairing matte, yellowed, scratched or slightly cloudy polycarbonate headlights. The kit includes the required sanding materials, masking materials, degreaser, wiping cloth and the professional SprayMax 2K 2-in-1 headlight restoration clearcoat + primer spray.

The SprayMax 2K headlight clearcoat is a special two-component transparent protective coating for polycarbonate headlights. The product works as a primer and 2K protective clearcoat in one, so no separate primer is required. The coating is UV- and weather-resistant, non-yellowing, flexible and increases the headlight’s resistance to external effects.

The kit is ideal for headlights with a matte, yellowed or scratched surface, or where the original transparency has been lost due to damage to the UV protective layer. With proper preparation and application, the headlight can become transparent again, while the 2K UV-resistant protective clearcoat forms a durable protective layer on the surface.

Which headlights can it be used on?

The kit is suitable for polycarbonate headlight covers whose surface has become matte, scratched or yellowed due to UV radiation, stone chips, gravel impact, car washes, salt water, weathering or other mechanical stress.

Not repairable: heavily cracked, deeply damaged headlight covers or surfaces damaged down to the plastic base layer. In this case, the headlight must be replaced.

Surface condition assessment before sanding

During sanding, the surface should be cleaned several times with a silicone remover suitable for plastic, so that dirt and sanding residue do not remain on the surface.

Detailed instructions for use

1. Condition assessment: inspect the headlight surface. Slightly matte, yellowed or scratched surfaces can be repaired. If the headlight is cracked or deeply damaged, replacement is required.
2. Masking: carefully cover the body panels around the headlight with masking tape and masking film. Make sure spray mist cannot reach the painted body surface.
3. First cleaning: clean the headlight with silicone remover and a degreasing cloth. The surface must be free from dust, grease and contamination.
4. Wet sanding for less damaged surfaces: for slightly damaged or yellowed surfaces, start with a finer paper. P1000 followed by P1500 can be used, with intermediate steps if needed.
5. Wet sanding for more heavily damaged surfaces: for more scratched or heavily matte surfaces, start with P600 or P800, then continue progressively with P1000, P1200 and P1500.
6. Intermediate cleaning: clean the surface regularly during sanding with silicone remover to check the result and avoid sanding contaminants back into the surface.
7. Final degreasing: after sanding, wipe the headlight completely clean with silicone remover. Before clearcoating, the surface must be dry, matte, even and completely free from contamination.
8. Pre-shaking the 2K can: before activation, shake the can thoroughly for at least 2–3 minutes.
9. Activation: place the red activation button from the cap onto the bottom of the can. Hold the can on a stable, level surface and press the button in to release the second component.
10. Shaking after activation: after activation, shake the can for at least 2–3 minutes so the two components mix properly.
11. Test spray: before coating the headlight, perform a test spray on a separate surface and check the spray pattern.
12. First coat: apply a very thin mist coat to the headlight. This helps adhesion and reduces the risk of runs.
13. Second coat: after the first coat, apply a normal, even full coat to the surface. Apply the coat with continuous, even movements.
14. Drying: allow the surface to dry at room temperature. The coating is dust-dry after approx. 7 minutes, ready for assembly after approx. 1–2 hours and polishable after approx. 8–9 hours.
15. Final curing: the drying time required for full solvent resistance is approx. 8–14 days at 20°C.
16. Valve cleaning: after use, turn the can upside down and spray until only propellant gas comes out. This cleans the spray nozzle.

Activating the 2K headlight clearcoat spray

1. Shake the can for at least 2 minutes before activating the second component.
2. Place the red activation button from the cap onto the bottom of the can.
3. Place the can on a stable, level surface, then press in the activation button.
4. After activation, shake the can for 2 minutes so the 2 components mix properly.
5. After activation, the product has a pot life of approx. 10 hours and must be used within this time.

Important: after activation, the 2K product starts curing chemically, so it cannot be stored for a longer period. The opened and activated can must be used within the specified pot life.

Important information

• The product is intended only for restoring polycarbonate headlight covers.
• Heavily cracked, deeply damaged or structurally damaged headlights cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
• Before clearcoating, the surface must be wiped completely clean, dry and free from grease.
• Sanding should be started with a grit size appropriate to the condition of the surface.
• The freshly coated surface must be protected from strong chemical and mechanical effects until fully cured.
• The 2K can must be used within approx. 10 hours after activation.
• Always clean the valve after use.
• The safety data sheet and workplace safety regulations must be followed.
