KELA RUST is a milky liquid rust converter that creates a stable anti-corrosion barrier in one step—ideal for areas where rust cannot be removed mechanically. When it reacts with rust, it forms a very stable organic metal complex that adheres strongly to steel and helps stop further corrosion.
Rust Converter – Rust Inhibitor (0.2 L) – IMPA 1412 KELA RUST
KELA RUST is a milky liquid rust converter that creates a stable anti-corrosion barrier in one step—ideal for areas where rust cannot be removed mechanically. When it reacts with rust, it forms a very stable organic metal complex that adheres strongly to steel and helps stop further corrosion.
It can be applied by brush, roller or spray and can also be used on a damp surface. After drying, the treated surface is paintable, providing an excellent base for subsequent coatings (topcoats, anti-corrosion systems). Recommended for automotive use on body panels and underbody areas.
Benefits & features
- High-performance rust conversion with deep penetration
- Actively converts rust into a strong, stable organic iron complex
- After drying, forms a blue-black protective barrier that limits oxygen and moisture ingress
- Paintable after curing—creates a solid base for further coatings
- Ready to use; if needed, can be thinned with water only
- No solvents allowed (do not use any type of solvent)
- Lead-, zinc- and chromium-free
- Suitable for hard-to-reach areas where mechanical rust removal is not possible

Where to use
Automotive and industrial applications where rust must be chemically stopped and converted because it cannot be removed mechanically—seams, edges, overlaps and hard-to-reach areas.
Application – step by step
- Surface prep: remove oil/grease, loose rust flakes and scale. If exposed to salts/chemicals, rinse with water before application.
- Damp surfaces: can be applied on a damp surface.
- Application: brush, roller, spray bottle or spray gun.
- Thinning: ready to use; thin with water only if needed. Do not use solvents.
- Film build: apply according to rust thickness—avoid runs.
- Drying time (20°C): approx. 30 minutes (air dry).
- Overcoating: minimum 3 hours. Do not paint before the conversion reaction is complete.
- Best performance: the product needs some humidity; applying in the evening and painting next morning can be beneficial.
- Visual check: rusted areas should turn blue-black.
- Painting window: can be overcoated with most paint systems within 6–7 days after treatment.
Spray gun settings (if spraying)
| Method | Nozzle | Pressure |
|---|---|---|
| Air spray gun | 1.5–1.7 mm | 2–3 atm |
Also easy to apply by brush or roller.
Critical notes
- Do not apply in direct sun or on hot metal. Fast drying can reduce conversion quality.
- Do not paint before the reaction has fully completed (typically ~3 hours under normal conditions).
- Solvents are forbidden—thin with water only if needed.
- Do not use metal containers/tools, and do not pour unused product back into the original container (may harden).
- Frost sensitive! Recommended storage: +5 to +10°C.
Safety & cleanup
- PPE: wear gloves and eye protection; ensure adequate ventilation in enclosed areas.
- Tool cleanup: clean tools with water after use (no solvent use).
- Test first: on critical systems or unknown substrates, do a small test to confirm compatibility.
