Vaber DerTan Blue is a water-based rust conversion coating that combines rust treatment and protective film formation in one process. It chemically reacts with corrosion on steel, and the resulting iron compounds become part of the forming paint layer. Once dry, the surface turns black and the coating shows water-repellent behaviour, helping to reduce further corrosion.
It can be applied by brush, roller, spray or dipping, which makes it practical for complex shapes and hard-to-reach areas. The product should be applied above 10°C, and it must not be exposed to below-freezing temperatures until fully cured.

- Rust conversion + protective coating in a single workflow
- Dries to a black, water-repellent film
- Water-based; ready to use and water-thinnable if needed
- Application by brush, roller, spray or dipping
- Suitable for hard-to-reach corroded areas
- May function as a standalone coating indoors / low exposure areas
- For outdoor or aggressive exposure, an appropriate topcoat is recommended

Application (recommended method)
- Prep: remove loose rust and flaking paint mechanically; the surface must be free from grease, oil, dust and soot.
- Stir well: mix thoroughly before use.
- Coats: apply at least two coats.
- First coat: if required, thin with 5–30% water to improve wetting and penetration.
- Second coat: apply without thinning after the first coat has dried.
- Drying between coats: allow at least 2 hours (depends on temperature and RH).
- Outdoor use: topcoat with a weather-resistant enamel for durability.
Notes & limitations
- Temperature: apply above 10°C; do not expose to freezing temperatures until fully cured.
- Previously painted surfaces: treat only the corroded areas where rust is present.
- Thermoplastic film: softens above 80°C; do not use on surfaces that heat up (exhausts, stoves, radiators, etc.).
- Topcoats: for light water-based topcoats, staining may occur; solvent-based topcoats are often preferred.
- No metal tools/containers; do not return leftover product to the original can (it may harden).
- Frost sensitive: store cool and dry; recommended around +5 to +10°C.
