House of Kolor Effect Colours & Special Coatings

House of Kolor effect colours and special coatings are designed for custom paint systems where a more distinctive appearance is required than a conventional solid colour. Depending on the chosen system, pearl, colour-shifting, metallic, flake, marble or glow effects can be created.

The range includes Flakes, Kameleon effects, Pearls, Kandy concentrates, Kosmic Krome, Kosmic Long-Glo, Marblizer, Ice Pearls, compatible base coats and other specialist House of Kolor custom paint materials.

Flakes for Sparkling Custom Finishes

Flakes can create highly reflective and sparkling custom finishes. The final appearance is influenced by flake size, colour, concentration, ground-coat colour and application technique.

They are particularly suitable for show cars, custom motorcycles and other decorative projects where a bold, high-impact finish is required.

Kameleon Opals & Kameleon Pearls

Kameleon effect colours can display different colours depending on viewing angle and lighting conditions. These colour-shifting effects are particularly noticeable on curved body panels and motorcycle components.

The final appearance can be strongly influenced by the ground-coat colour, amount of effect material and number of coats applied.

Pearls & Ice Pearls

Pearl pigments and Ice Pearls can add subtle or more dramatic light-reflecting effects to a custom finish. Depending on the viewing angle and lighting, they can provide additional depth, sparkle and colour variation.

Pearl effects can be used as part of suitable House of Kolor custom systems with compatible base and clear coats according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Kandy Concentrates for Deep Translucent Colour

House of Kolor Kandy concentrates are used to create distinctive translucent colour effects. The final shade depends not only on the Kandy colour itself but also on the ground coat, number of colour coats and film build.

Consistent application is particularly important with Kandy systems because differences in coat count can produce visible colour variations.

Kosmic Krome Metallic Effect

Kosmic Krome is a specialist House of Kolor system for creating a distinctive metallic appearance. When applied over the specified substrate and ground coat, it can produce a strong reflective metal effect.

Final appearance can be sensitive to surface preparation, ground coat, application technique and subsequent coating layers, making strict adherence to the relevant technical data sheet particularly important.

Kosmic Long-Glo Phosphorescent Effect

Kosmic Long-Glo can be used to create a light-absorbing effect that remains visible in darkness after exposure to light. The intensity and duration of the glow can depend on application, film build, ground colour and previous light exposure.

It is particularly suitable for custom graphics and specialist details where a distinctive appearance is required in both daylight and darkness.

Marblizer for Marble Effects

Marblizer is used to create irregular decorative patterns resembling marble. The final pattern is strongly influenced by application technique, making each finished surface potentially unique.

It is particularly suitable for custom panels, motorcycle parts, graphics and other specialist decorative applications.

Striping & Lettering Paints

Striping and Lettering products are designed for pinstripes, lettering, outlines and hand-painted custom details. They are particularly suited to traditional pinstriping, signwriting and other hand-painted custom techniques.

Application and compatibility depend on the specific House of Kolor product and the complete coating system being used.

Base Coats – The Foundation of the Effect

House of Kolor Base Coats play a major role in the final appearance of many effect systems. The same pearl, Kandy or translucent effect can look significantly different over different base colours.

For this reason, the base colour, effect layer and final clear coat should always be considered together when designing a custom finish.

Create a Test Panel Before Applying Effect Paint

A test panel is strongly recommended when using House of Kolor effect colours. It allows the base colour, effect material, number of coats and clear coat to be evaluated together before painting the actual vehicle.

With Kandy, Kameleon, pearl and other multi-stage systems, even relatively small differences in application can noticeably alter the final colour.

Professional Custom Paint Systems

Specialist effect finishes require accurate application and suitable refinishing experience. Always work according to the relevant House of Kolor technical data sheet and use only approved base coats, reducers, carriers and clear coats for the selected system.

When using automotive paints and solvent-based materials, provide suitable ventilation and use the personal protective equipment specified in the relevant safety data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Effect Colours & Coatings

What is an effect paint?

An effect paint is a coating or paint system designed to create a special visual appearance such as pearl, colour-shifting, flake, metallic or other decorative effects beyond a conventional solid colour.

What is the difference between Kameleon and pearl effects?

Kameleon systems typically produce a more pronounced colour shift when viewed from different angles, while pearl effects primarily add sparkle, depth and more subtle colour variation.

Why is the base colour important under effect paint?

Many translucent and semi-translucent effects allow the underlying colour to influence the final tone, depth and visual appearance of the finished coating.

Do effect paints require a clear coat?

Many House of Kolor effect systems require a compatible clear coat to achieve the specified final appearance and surface protection. Always follow the technical data sheet for the particular system.

Why should I make a test panel?

A test panel allows you to evaluate the combined effect of the base colour, effect material, number of coats and clear coat before applying the finish to the actual vehicle.
