DIY Car Paint Repair Kits – Complete Aerosol Systems
Complete aerosol car paint repair kits for repairing scratches, stone chips, scuffs, small dents and local bodywork damage at home. The kits are built around colour-matched automotive paint aerosols and, depending on the selected package, can include body filler, primer surfacer, abrasives, degreaser, masking materials and clear coat.
Separate DIY refinishing kits are available for acrylic and metallic colours and for smaller or larger repairs, so you do not have to select every product required for each stage individually.

Complete DIY Car Paint Repair Kits
Our car paint repair kits are complete DIY refinishing packages designed for repairing smaller and larger areas of bodywork damage at home. Each kit is built around an automotive paint aerosol mixed according to the vehicle's paint code and can also include the materials required for preparation, filling, priming, sanding, masking and clear coating.
These are not touch-up pens or brush bottles. They are complete aerosol-based automotive refinishing kits designed to cover the main stages of a local paint repair, from preparing the damaged area through to applying colour and, where required, clear coat.
What Is Included in a Car Paint Repair Kit?
The exact contents vary between kits because a small stone chip does not require the same materials as a dent or a larger damaged area.
Depending on the selected package, a kit may include:
- automotive paint aerosol mixed by paint code,
- soft body filler and applicator for small dents,
- aerosol primer surfacer,
- abrasive papers in several grades,
- scuffing and preparation pads,
- silicone remover or suitable panel degreaser,
- cleaning and tack cloths,
- masking tape,
- a suitable or selectable clear coat depending on the kit.
Always check the individual product page for the exact contents of the selected kit.
Colour-Matched Automotive Paint Aerosol by Paint Code
The paint aerosol supplied in the repair kits is prepared according to the paint formula associated with the factory paint code you provide. When ordering, enter the vehicle make, model, year and paint code. If you are unsure about the code, a photograph of the vehicle identification or paint-code label can also be useful.
The paint code is not the general vehicle colour shown on the registration document. You need the manufacturer's specific paint code found on the vehicle's identification label or plate.
A factory formula cannot guarantee an exact visual match in every case. Vehicle age, UV exposure, previous repairs and factory colour variants can all affect the colour currently visible on the car, so a test spray should always be carried out before the final repair.
What Damage Can the Kits Repair?
Depending on the selected kit and the condition of the panel, a complete paint repair system can be suitable for:
- stone chips,
- scratches,
- scuffs,
- chipped paint,
- small dents,
- localised bodywork repairs,
- refinishing small previously repaired areas.
The amount of preparation required depends on the depth and size of the damage. A superficial defect may require relatively little preparation, while a dent may need filling, sanding and primer surfacer before the colour coat can be applied.
The Complete Repair Process in One System
One of the main advantages of a complete spray repair kit is that you do not have to choose every preparation and refinishing material separately.
Depending on the damage and the selected kit, the repair process can include:
- Cleaning and degreasing to remove wax, silicone, grease and contamination.
- Sanding the damaged paint and preparing the surrounding repair area.
- Body filler where dents or deeper surface irregularities need levelling.
- Primer surfacer to refine the repaired area and prepare it for colour.
- Fine sanding and scuffing to create the correct surface for painting.
- Applying the colour-matched paint aerosol in controlled coats.
- Clear coating where required by the paint system.
Always follow the application and safety instructions supplied for the individual products in the kit.
Metallic and Acrylic Paint Repair Kits
Separate metallic and acrylic repair kits are available because the coating systems do not always use the same layer structure.
Metallic basecoat is not a finished topcoat on its own and must be protected with a suitable compatible clear coat. For exterior bodywork, select a clear coat designed for the relevant exterior automotive coating system. Some of our kits allow you to choose between different clear-coat options.
For acrylic colours, always follow the coating sequence specified for the individual paint and repair kit, as the exact system determines which additional layers are required.
Repair Kits for Small and Larger Areas
Different repairs require different quantities of paint and preparation materials. Our range therefore includes DIY aerosol paint repair kits for both smaller and larger damaged areas.
A compact kit may be appropriate for a small repair, while a larger damaged area can require additional preparation and coating materials. Select the package according to both the size and type of damage.
DIY Car Paint Repair – Watch the Complete Process

Why Choose a Complete Automotive Paint Repair Kit?
For a first-time DIY repair, one of the most difficult tasks is working out which abrasive, filler, primer, degreaser, masking material and clear coat should be used with the colour paint.
A complete car paint repair kit simplifies this process by bringing together the main products required for the repair, while the colour aerosol is prepared according to your vehicle's paint code.

Frequently Asked Questions About Car Paint Repair Kits
Are these touch-up pens or brush-on paint kits?
No. This category is primarily for DIY aerosol refinishing systems. The kits use colour-matched automotive paint spray and can include the supporting materials required for the other stages of the repair.
What is included in a complete car paint repair kit?
Contents vary by kit, but in addition to the colour-matched paint aerosol they can include body filler, primer surfacer, abrasives, degreaser, masking materials, cleaning cloths and a suitable clear coat.
Is the paint aerosol mixed by vehicle paint code?
Yes. Colour-matched aerosols are prepared according to the paint formula associated with the factory paint code provided. Vehicle age, previous repairs and factory variants can affect the actual colour, so a test spray is recommended.
Can the kits be used to repair small dents?
Kits that include body filler and the required preparation materials can be used for suitable small dents and surface irregularities. Always check the exact contents and intended use of the selected package.
Does metallic basecoat require clear coat?
Yes. Metallic basecoat must be finished with a suitable compatible clear coat. For exterior bodywork, use a clear coat specified for the relevant exterior automotive coating system.
Is there a video showing the complete DIY repair process?
Yes. CarColor provides a video guide covering the main stages of DIY automotive paint repair, from preparing the damaged area through to applying colour and clear coat.
