Car Paint Touch-Up Pens
Colour-matched car paint touch-up pens for repairing stone chips, fine scratches and small areas of chipped paint. The automotive paint is individually mixed according to the paint formula associated with your vehicle's factory paint code.
The range includes acrylic and metallic touch-up systems, 2K products, fine-tip 2-in-1 applicators, Microbrush kits and touch-up primer pens for precise DIY repairs without using an aerosol.
Car Paint Touch-Up Pens Mixed by Paint Code
A car paint touch-up pen is a precise solution for repairing small areas of automotive paint damage such as stone chips, fine scratches and small paint chips. The colour is prepared according to the paint formula associated with the vehicle's factory paint code, rather than being selected from a small range of generic colours.
Brush and fine-tip application makes it possible to place a small amount of paint directly into the damaged area without spraying an entire surrounding section.
What Can Automotive Touch-Up Paint Repair?
Touch-up paint is primarily intended for small, localised paint defects such as:
- stone chips,
- small areas of chipped paint,
- fine scratches,
- minor scuffs,
- small local paint defects.
A touch-up pen does not repair dents and is not intended for refinishing larger continuous areas. Larger damage is better suited to an aerosol-based or professional spray repair process.
Automotive Touch-Up Paint by Factory Paint Code
When ordering, provide the vehicle make, model, year and factory paint code. We use the paint formula associated with this code to prepare the colour.
The paint code is not the general colour description shown on the vehicle registration document. It is the manufacturer's specific paint identifier, normally found on a factory label or identification plate.
Vehicle age, UV exposure, previous refinishing and factory colour variants can cause the colour currently visible on the vehicle to differ from the original formula. A test application is therefore recommended before repairing the final surface.
2K Acrylic Touch-Up Paint
With a 2K acrylic touch-up system, the colour-matched paint is supplied with a separate hardener. Mixing the paint and hardener in the specified ratio starts the chemical curing process.
Only mix the quantity required for the immediate repair, as the usable working time becomes limited after the hardener is added.
Always follow the mixing ratio and application instructions supplied with the individual product.
Metallic Touch-Up Paint with 2K Clear Coat
A metallic touch-up system is constructed differently from the 2K acrylic version. The metallic colour is a basecoat that requires a compatible clear coat as part of the complete repair system.
In the CarColor metallic kit, the clear coat and hardener are supplied separately and mixed before application. The 2K component therefore applies to the clear-coat stage rather than the metallic base colour itself.
2-in-1 Touch-Up Pen for Fine Scratches
The range also includes a 2-in-1 automotive touch-up pen combining a fine needle applicator and a brush. The fine tip can be used for very narrow scratches and small chips, while the brush is suitable for slightly larger local defects.
This makes the system useful when several different sizes of small paint damage need to be repaired with the same colour-matched paint.
Microbrush Applicators for Tiny Paint Chips
For very small chips and pinpoint damage, Microbrush applicators help place the paint accurately inside the defect rather than spreading it over the surrounding original finish.
The aim is to build the repair with controlled amounts of paint rather than applying one unnecessarily thick coat.
Touch-Up Primer for Deeper Paint Damage
If the damage has penetrated through the colour layer and exposed the substrate, a suitable touch-up primer may be required before applying the colour.
The range also includes a precision primer pen for preparing small stone chips and local paint defects. The correct coating sequence depends on the depth of the damage and the type of substrate exposed.
Repairing a Rusty Stone Chip
If corrosion has already developed in the damaged area, simply applying touch-up paint over it is not sufficient. Loose rust should first be removed and the surface treated and prepared correctly before primer and colour are applied.
Touch-up paint can seal a correctly prepared repair, but it does not replace proper corrosion treatment.
How to Use a Car Paint Touch-Up Pen
Even a very small repair benefits from careful preparation:
- Clean the damaged area and remove dirt.
- Degrease the surface with a suitable silicone remover.
- Check the colour with a test application.
- Apply only a small amount of paint directly into the defect.
- Build several thin applications if necessary rather than using one heavy coat.
- For metallic systems, apply the specified compatible clear coat after the basecoat has dried.
- For 2K products, follow the correct hardener ratio and working time.
Touch-Up Pen or Aerosol Repair?
A touch-up pen is best suited to millimetre-sized and other small local defects where paint needs to be placed precisely into the damaged area.
For a larger scratch, scuff or continuous repair area, brush application can remain more visible. A correctly prepared aerosol or professional spray repair can provide a more uniform finish over larger areas.
Automotive Paint Mixing Since 1991
CarColor has worked with automotive paints and colour mixing since 1991. Colour-matched touch-up paints are prepared according to the vehicle details and paint code supplied with the order.

Frequently Asked Questions About Car Paint Touch-Up Pens
What can a car paint touch-up pen repair?
Touch-up pens are designed for stone chips, fine scratches, small areas of chipped paint and other minor localised paint damage. Larger continuous areas are better suited to an aerosol or professional spray repair.
Is the touch-up paint mixed by vehicle paint code?
Yes. Colour-matched products are prepared according to the paint formula associated with the factory paint code provided. Vehicle age, previous repairs and factory colour variants can affect the actual shade, so a test application is recommended.
What is the difference between acrylic and metallic touch-up paint?
In the 2K acrylic system, the colour paint itself is mixed with hardener. In the metallic system, the colour is a basecoat and the compatible clear coat is supplied with a separate hardener.
Does metallic touch-up paint need clear coat?
Yes. Metallic basecoat requires a compatible clear coat as part of the complete coating system.
Can a touch-up pen repair a dent?
No. Touch-up products repair paint damage; they do not reshape dented metal or plastic. The bodywork damage should be repaired first where deformation is present.
What is the difference between a touch-up brush and a fine-tip pen?
A conventional touch-up brush is useful for small paint chips, while a fine needle-style applicator provides greater control for very narrow scratches and pinpoint damage. A 2-in-1 applicator combines both methods.
