Liquid Rubber Spray
Liquid rubber spray for creating a flexible, peelable rubber coating. RUBBERcomp spray paint can be used on compatible metal, plastic, glass, rubber and other surfaces for decoration and protection. Available in several colours and finishes in 400 ml aerosol cans.
Liquid rubber spray – flexible, peelable rubber coating
Liquid rubber spray is a solvent-based aerosol coating that forms a flexible rubber film after drying. When applied at the correct film thickness, RUBBERcomp can later be peeled away from a compatible surface, making it useful for temporary colour changes, decorative work and surface protection.
Products of this type are also commonly described as rubber spray paint, peelable spray coating or spray-on rubber. Unlike adhesive vinyl film, RUBBERcomp is sprayed on as a liquid coating and forms a continuous flexible rubber layer as it dries.
What can liquid rubber spray be used on?
RUBBERcomp is suitable for a range of correctly prepared and compatible substrates. The manufacturer lists materials including metal, plastic, glass, rubber, brick, cardboard and wicker.
Typical applications include wheels, selected automotive and motorcycle parts, plastic and metal components, tool handles, hobby projects and temporary decorative colour changes.
Always test the product on a small inconspicuous area first. The manufacturer specifically warns that some previously painted 1K coatings may react with RUBBERcomp.
Rubber spray paint or peelable spray coating?
The terms are often used for the same type of product. RUBBERcomp is sprayed onto the substrate in liquid form and dries into a flexible rubber film.
With sufficient film thickness, the coating can later be peeled off. This makes it different from a conventional permanent paint system.

How to apply RUBBERcomp spray
- Clean the substrate. Remove oil, grease, wax, dirt and loose rust.
- Test first. Spray a small inconspicuous area, particularly on previously painted surfaces.
- Shake the can thoroughly.
- Spray from approximately 15 cm away.
- Apply several thin coats. The manufacturer recommends approximately four coats for adequate film thickness.
- Allow around 10–20 minutes between coats.
- Allow the coating to dry fully. At around 20°C it is touch dry after approximately two hours and reaches final drying after around 24 hours.
Why film thickness matters
One of the main benefits of liquid rubber spray is that the coating can later be peeled from the substrate. This works best when a sufficiently thick, continuous film has been created.
Maston recommends approximately four coats to achieve adequate film thickness. Very thin coatings may tear into small pieces during removal instead of peeling away as one film.
Removing the rubber coating
Once fully dry and applied at sufficient thickness, the RUBBERcomp layer can be lifted at an edge and peeled away.
Removal will still depend on the condition and type of substrate and on the thickness of the applied coating, so compatibility testing before coating a large area is recommended.
Liquid rubber spray for cars and wheels
RUBBERcomp can be used on compatible automotive and motorcycle components, including wheels and selected trim parts.
It is particularly useful where a temporary colour change is preferred over a permanent refinishing system.
Always test factory and previously refinished paintwork first. Some 1K paint systems may react with RUBBERcomp, so it should not be described as universally safe for every automotive finish.
Protection and flexibility
According to the manufacturer, RUBBERcomp helps protect coated items against moisture, acids, abrasion, corrosion and slipping. The coating remains flexible rather than forming a hard conventional paint film.
RUBBERcomp has been tested from -30°C to +90°C. This does not make it a specialist high-temperature paint for exhausts or other components exposed to extreme heat.
Coverage of one 400 ml aerosol
The manufacturer's theoretical coverage for one 400 ml RUBBERcomp aerosol is approximately 0.4 m². Actual coverage varies with substrate shape, overspray, application technique and film thickness.
Available colours and finishes
The current range includes black matt and satin, transparent gloss and matt, white, gun metal, camouflage green, wheel silver, red, yellow, blue and camouflage brown versions.
Check both the colour and gloss level when choosing a product, as matt, satin and gloss finishes produce noticeably different results.
Safe application
RUBBERcomp is a solvent-based aerosol. Work in a properly ventilated area, keep the product away from ignition sources and follow the personal protective equipment requirements in the product safety documentation.
When spraying indoors, protect the surrounding area carefully because fine spray mist can travel well beyond the immediate workpiece.
Frequently asked questions about liquid rubber spray
What is liquid rubber spray?
Liquid rubber spray is an aerosol coating that dries to form a flexible rubber film and, when applied at sufficient film thickness, can later be peeled from a compatible substrate.
How many coats of RUBBERcomp spray are required?
Maston recommends approximately four coats to achieve adequate film thickness and make later removal easier.
How long should I wait between coats?
The manufacturer specifies approximately 10–20 minutes between coats, with around 15 minutes being the standard recoating interval.
How long does RUBBERcomp take to dry?
At around 20°C the coating is touch dry after approximately two hours, while final drying takes around 24 hours.
How far from the surface should I spray?
The RUBBERcomp technical data sheet specifies a spraying distance of approximately 15 cm.
Can RUBBERcomp be used over automotive paint?
It can be used on compatible painted surfaces, but always test an inconspicuous area first because the manufacturer warns that some 1K paint coatings may react with RUBBERcomp.
Can it be used on polystyrene?
No. The manufacturer's technical data specifically lists polystyrene as an unsuitable substrate for RUBBERcomp spray.
Is rubber spray the same as a peelable spray coating?
The terms are often used for this type of product. RUBBERcomp is sprayed on as a liquid and dries into a flexible peelable rubber film rather than forming an adhesive vinyl sheet.
How much area does one can cover?
The manufacturer's theoretical coverage for one 400 ml RUBBERcomp aerosol is approximately 0.4 m², although actual coverage varies with the substrate and application method.
