3M™ Trizact™ Hookit™ 471LA Clear Coat Sanding Disc – P1500, 150 mm (02088)
The 3M™ 471LA Hookit™ Trizact™ Clear Coat Sanding Disc – P1500 is designed for clear coat finishing: it helps remove common paint defects such as dust nibs and orange peel, while refining sanding scratches before polishing or the next finishing step.
Always use damp (wet sanding). A light water spray reduces dust, helps prevent premature loading, and keeps the surface cleaner. The film backing is tear-resistant, durable, and flexible enough to follow uneven or contoured body panels.
The Hookit™ attachment enables quick, easy disc changes with Hookit™ back-up pads and soft interface pads, improving control and reducing the risk of cutting through edges.
Key benefits
- P1500 grade: levels defects and refines scratches prior to polishing.
- Damp use: lower dust, reduced loading, cleaner working conditions.
- Trizact™ construction: consistent performance and long service life.
- Film backing: tear-resistant and flexible on contoured panels.
- Hookit™ system: fast changes and secure attachment.
- Use with an interface pad for extra flexibility and safer work on body lines and edges.

Typical applications
- Clear coat defect removal: dust nibs and minor surface imperfections
- Orange peel reduction and pre-polish surface preparation
- Refining sanding scratches before the next finishing step
- Machine sanding on automotive panels (use an interface pad on contours)
How to use (quick guide)
- Clean first: remove all loose dirt from the painted surface. Dirt can cause severe scratches.
- Dampen the surface: spray water lightly before sanding to achieve a uniform matte finish.
- Contours & body lines: use a soft interface pad for extra flexibility and reduced edge cut-through risk.
- Water amount: too little water can increase loading; too much can make the disc “skate” without proper matting action.
- Machine speed: run at medium speed; excessive speed increases the risk of sanding through on edges.
- Consistency: sanding the area twice can help achieve complete and even matting.
Storage / shelf life
Recommended storage conditions: 18–22°C and 35–50% RH. Keep away from damp/cold surfaces and heat sources. Store in original packaging until use. Under ideal conditions, shelf life is considered indefinite.
Safety & machine use
- PPE: work in a well-ventilated area and wear suitable goggles, dust mask and gloves.
- Back-up pad: use only on machines with a suitable, well-maintained back-up pad.
- Disc overhang: the disc should extend symmetrically no more than 2 mm beyond the outer rim of the back-up pad.
- Condition: do not use damaged discs or misshapen pads; do not modify discs or pads.
- Speed: do not exceed the maximum permitted running speed (MOS) marked on the pad.
- Mounting: mount centrally and use the shallowest working angle possible.
