The Rupes 9.XC2 XTRA CUT Gelcoat polishing compound is an extra heavy-cut, one-step compound designed for gelcoat, marine surfaces, high-solid industrial coatings, hard paints, countertops and demanding professional surfaces. It is developed for applications where fast defect removal, efficient oxidation correction and a high-quality finish are required.

XC-2 can be used as the first polishing step after sanding, as well as for restoring heavily oxidized, aged or contaminated gelcoat surfaces. It quickly removes severe surface defects, sanding marks, dullness and oxidation, while leaving a cleaner and more refined finish compared to many traditional heavy-cut compounds.

The compound is compatible with multiple machine types, including rotary, gear-driven and random orbital polishers. This makes it a practical solution for professional workshops, marine refinishing, industrial coating correction and vehicle-related applications where harder clear coats or special coating systems require stronger cutting performance.

Although Rupes XC-2 was primarily developed for marine and industrial surfaces, practical experience and customer feedback show that it can also be used effectively in the vehicle industry. It can be especially useful on harder automotive clear coats, heavily weathered painted surfaces, oxidized body panels, commercial vehicles, motorhomes, trailers, work vehicles and special industrial vehicles.

For automotive use, XC-2 is mainly recommended for tasks requiring strong cutting performance, such as removing sanding marks, deeper scratches, dullness or heavy oxidation. On delicate, softer or freshly painted surfaces, a test spot is always recommended before full application. If needed, the surface should be refined afterwards with a finer compound and a suitable finishing pad.

With rotary polisher:

• Recommended speed: level 3.5–4
• Arm movement: slow and controlled
• Working time: approx. 60–90 seconds
• Recommended pad: twisted wool pad for higher material removal or Cut & Finish wool pad for improved finish

With random orbital polisher:

• Recommended speed: level 4
• Arm movement: slow and even
• Working time: approx. 40–60 seconds
• Recommended pad: coarse wool pad for old gelcoat or coarse microfiber pad for industrial coatings

After the heavy cutting step, a finer compound and the appropriate foam or wool pad can be used to further improve the final finish. For higher gloss and longer-lasting protection, the surface can be refined with a yellow foam or wool pad, then protected with a finishing pad and a suitable protective coating if required.
