A855 is easy to apply and fast to sand, making it a practical solution for fine repair work in professional bodyshops. When properly applied to a correctly prepared substrate, it helps create a smooth and even surface for subsequent primer surfacer and paint system application.
The product can be used on several substrates including existing paintwork, bare steel, cast iron, galvanised steel, aluminium and fibreglass, provided the recommended preparation guidelines are followed.
PPG Fine Stopper A855 is intended for workshops where fast repair, good sanding performance and reliable surface preparation are essential before applying suitable 2K primer surfacers.
Main system components
- A855 Fine Stopper
- I63PTRM020 hardener (20 ml tube)
For professional use only.
Mixing ratio
Hardener addition by weight:
- At 5–10°C: 2.5–3.0%
- At 10–20°C: 2.0–2.5%
- At 20–30°C: 1.5–2.0%
Mix the hardener thoroughly into the filler until a homogeneous paste is obtained.
Pot life
- At 5–10°C: 8–12 minutes
- At 10–20°C: 7–10 minutes
- At 20–30°C: 5–10 minutes
Surface preparation
- Paintwork: P220–P240 dry sanding
- Bare steel and cast iron: P80–P120
- Galvanised steel: P120
- Aluminium: P120–P240
- Fibreglass / GRP: P220–P240
- Plastics: not suitable for direct application
In all cases, use the appropriate PPG cleaner and ensure the substrate is thoroughly cleaned and dried before and after preparation.
Application

Drying times
| Process | Time |
|---|---|
| Dry to sand at 5–10°C | 35–45 minutes |
| Dry to sand at 10–20°C | 30–40 minutes |
| Dry to sand at 20–30°C | 20–30 minutes |
| IR medium wave | 5–6 minutes |
| IR short wave | 4–5 minutes |
Note: on galvanised or zinc-plated panels, drying time should be extended by 15–20 minutes.
Sanding
Dry sanding: P120, followed by P180, followed by P240
Wet sanding is not recommended.
Overcoating
Overcoating time at 20°C: 40 minutes
Overcoat with: any suitable PPG 2K surfacer
Direct overcoating with topcoat colour is not recommended. Always use a suitable primer surfacer first.
Important notes / limitations
- Always follow the recommended hardener ratio.
- Do not try to accelerate drying by adding extra hardener, as this may cause major defects in the subsequent paint film.
- Do not allow water to come into contact with 2K polyester fillers, so always dry sand.
- Once hardener has been mixed into the filler, do not return it to the original container.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- After use, ensure partly used containers are tightly sealed.
